OTB helps manage a large transit construction project with SSIMS™
Our client was embarking on a large and complex transit construction project converting bus lines to light rail. The project involved diverse stakeholders including the City, the operating transit agency, three construction contractors and various consultants and sub-contractors. OTB Solutions was engaged to automate processes and develop dashboards to help manage this large and complex project.
The Challenge
The City recognized in the first phase of the project that they had inadequate oversight, using their existing manual process, to monitor the various contracts. They needed automation and transparency to be able to see at a glance overall status and progress.
What Was At Stake
Each contract has complex and detailed terms and conditions with substantial financial penalties should either the agency or the contractors default. Huge sums of money were at stake if deadlines were missed.
The Solution
OTB Solutions leveraged its Safety and Security Information System (SSIMS™)solution as the basis for the creation of a set of unified processes that share a common reporting data structure and process management. These processes include Safety and Security Certification (based upon the MIL-882 standard and CENELEC), Risk Management, Variations, and Hazard Tracking.
Results
We developed 10 automated workflows and three dashboards to monitor the construction projects. The client recognizes the power of the platform and is actively identifying additional manual business processes for automation as well as additional dashboards to expand their ability to manage processes and track status.
OTB’s Unique Approach
OTB Solutions has developed a highly successful agile iterative method to facilitate disparate stakeholders in process automation. Our design process is collaborative, iterative, and visible. This combined with our SSIMS™ configured tool has given our client the ability to manage this second phase of their construction project. Just by looking at their dashboards, the client can now see overall status of their construction project at a glance.
